Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for contributors.

JFCS is designed for people who have meaningful feline care knowledge to share, including those outside traditional academic publishing. These answers explain the route in.

01Do I need academic credentials to contribute?

No. JFCS welcomes work from practitioners, groomers, rescuers, educators, caregivers, organizational leaders, and researchers. What matters is whether the contribution is relevant to feline care systems, transparent about its material and limits, and prepared to the journal’s standards.

02What kinds of submissions does the journal consider?

The journal considers research articles, registry reports, methods and protocol papers, service-design analyses, practice accounts, conceptual analyses, educational resources, and carefully bounded implementation reports. The submission guidelines explain each article class.

03Can I ask whether an idea fits before I prepare a full submission?

Yes. A short enquiry can help identify the most appropriate article class, the records or permissions that may matter, and whether professional assistance would be useful. Use the contact page before investing in a full manuscript.

04What is the contributor dashboard for?

The secure contributor dashboard is where registered users can deliver materials, leave reference notes, and return to work already shared with the journal. It is not a public repository or a replacement for editorial review.

05How do I keep my professional information current?

After signing in, you can update your contributor profile with a biography, affiliation, education, training, credentials, ORCID, and professional links. The profile supports editorial correspondence and accurate contributor information.

06Is assistance available for contributors who are new to publishing?

Yes. JFCS includes a professional-assistance pathway for contributors who want structured help identifying an article class, mapping claims to available material, or preparing a submission responsibly. Assistance is separate from editorial decision-making and does not purchase authorship, review, or acceptance.

07How are welfare and evidence handled?

JFCS asks authors to describe their materials honestly and to match claims to evidence. It does not require harmful comparisons to validate a welfare practice. Instead, contributors should explain their observations, reasoning, uncertainty, and stopping boundaries in a way readers can evaluate.

08Where can I find fees and publication standards?

Current publication fees, editorial standards, review expectations, conflict disclosure, data and permissions requirements, corrections, and computational-assistance disclosure are set out in the submission guidelines.
